American College of Surgeons Scholarships

The American College of Surgeons Scholarships 2024-2025 invite applicants who meet the required qualifications to take part in various training programmes with the goal of learning new skills and information about surgical education and practice.

This provides pre- and postdoctoral awards to young professors from non-US/Canadian nations, with a maximum annual payment of $10,000. The knowledge that the scholar gains from this training will enable him or her to improve surgical education back home.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must demonstrate a dedication for performing excellent surgery, instructing surgeons, and expanding community access to surgical care.
Previous recipients of the ACS International Scholarship are not qualified.
Applicants must complete all applicable sections.
Preference will be given to applicants who have never received training or a surgical fellowship in the US or Canada.
Candidates must be medical school graduates who have finished their surgical residency.
The applicant should be fully certified surgeon with at least five years’ experience post-certification plus maximum of 20 years’ experience.
The planned permanent address of the applicant must be used to submit applications.
Applications will only be reviewed following the completion of all formal training, including fellowships and scholarships, and following a minimum of one year of surgical practice, teaching, or research at the applicants’ intended permanent location.
Applicants must submit three (3) separate letters of recommendation from colleagues. Two letters are required, one from the chair of the department in which they hold a clinical or academic position and the other from a resident Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
The ISSURGED award must be used in the year for which they are designated.
It is required of recipients to prepare a report outlining the significance of the visit for them as well as any potential advantages for patients back home after they return.
